Honorable Mention at WASM`s 126th Art Show

Last week took place the 126th WASM`s Art Show at the Le Livart Gallery, here in Montreal. It was the first time that I participated to a juried art show. Over fifty professional artists and 120 artworks made up this show. It felt great to be able to display my work in the same exhibition with these amazing artists.

The gallery was beautiful and seeing my artwork in the main room, was an unique feeling. This artshow was supposed to have taken place last year, in October 2020, but it was postponed couple of times due to Covid-19, like many other shows.

I am thankful that the WASM and Le Livart made it possible to have the show given the current restrictions. Behind the scene, there were many WASM members that helped out from hanging out the artworks to creating the marketing material. What a wonderful work they`ve achieved!

Given that we are in full pandemic season, they ensured that all sanitary precautions were taken during the drop off, while organising the exhibition or even at pick-up of the artworks, after the show!

The virtual vernissage was held on Zoom on April 22nd and it was such a pleasant event as the members of the jury were invited to present themselves and talk a bit about their work. It was really touching and inspiring to hear from them how they dealt with the pandemic and how they had to find new ways to continue their work.

The members of the jury were the following: Gwendolyn Owens (Director of Collections, McGill), Julia Skelly (Professor of Art History at McGill and Concordia, published author), Scott MacLeod (award-winning visual artist and filmmaker).

The virtual vernissage will be made available soon on WASMs website. You will definitely enjoy listening to Miranda`s Castravelli speech (the president of WASM)!!!

What came as a great surprise was the fact that I was awarded an honorable mention for my work, “Kaleidoscope Pod Girl”.

Why as a surprise? Because some of the artworks exhibited in the show were simply breathtaking. The photos of the catalog or those below, do not do justice to any of them. You need to see them in person to be able to comprehend their uniqueness and the level of skill of the artists.

Here are some eye candies for you! If you would like to see all the artworks and learn more about the artists, please check out the WASM`s online catalog.
