“ Needlism is an unique practice that has its roots in sequencing, with the difference that the artist creates 3D artworks using push pins, needles and glass beads, whereas sequining is an embellishment technique that usually involves gluing or sewing sequins on fabrics or 2D objects. “

The artwork explores the fragility of the artist’s body, and acts as an exploratory investigation into healing methodologies. The act of pushing needles into the styrofoam head has a cathartic power, as it allows the artist to escape the feeling of “pins and needles”, shaping and translating a  physical sensation into a 3 D sculpture.

The physical interaction with the medium has a curative effect on the artist. It helps her give visual form and expression to invisible symptoms. The artwork showcases the vulnerability of the patient, illustrates the movement, growth and intensity of the pain (sensation of pins and needles). The artist portrays  the human body as a vessel where illness plays the role of an orchestra’s chef unfolding a symphony of pain.
